How To Start A DIY Blog

Are you a handyman? The guy that always gets called when something breaks or is acting up? Are you the gal that’s known around town as “The girl who made her own (insert anything do-it-yourself here)?” Have you ever considered sharing your experience on an outlet like a blog?

Is the only reason that you haven’t started a blog because you don’t know how? Then keep reading! In this post, we’re going to help you learn how to start your own blog.

Figure out your audience.

Your audience is something you need to figure out. Are you trying to talk to those guys who are trying to do their own home repairs and such? Or are you a crafter that wants to show others how you make your wares? What is your specialty? Figure out these things, and you’re well on your way to figuring out how you’re writing your blog.

Once you figure out your audience, get involved in communities that focus on that audience. Getting involved in online communities is one of the best ways to get the word out about a blog or other online endeavor that you want people to read or look at. If you’re involved in a community, then you’ve got the possibility of having an instant following when your blog goes live!

Sign up, set up.

Now that you’ve figured out your audience, it’s time to get started! Seriously, it’s not that hard of a thing to start. Figure out a title, make your user name similar to your title, and get writing. You can make it light on graphics at first, by the way. Work on design after the content starts rolling in, it will still be there.

What topics will you write about?

So, now that you’ve got your blog set up, what in the world are you going to write? Writer’s block is a pain to get through, but here are some thoughts that can help you think through some of your potential topics.

–          What is the DIY project that you are most proud of?

–          What is your favorite sort of DIY project to work on?

–          Do you have any tips for people who are just getting started on DIY projects?

–          Do you have any funny mess-ups from any of your DIY endeavors?

–          Why did you decide to start doing stuff yourself?

–          Is there anything you’d recommend that people never try to DIY?

–          What categories of topics do you want to focus on?

Hopefully, these will help you get some ideas rolling. Special tip: Stagger your posts so that people always have something to come back for.

Get started!

If you’re even considering starting up a blog, just do it! It’s worth the time and energy that you put into the process. Get some posts go, get excited, and get the word out about your blog to other people so they can learn from your experiences. Go! Do it! You won’t regret it.
